Presentations and Workshops

Each semester, a variety of presentations and workshops are offered that provide information on various topics related to emergency preparedness. These include discussion based and hands-on workshops.  Presentations are offered both on general emergency preparedness, and special topics such as severe weather.

Emergency Preparedness: What’s Your Plan?

Course Length: 30-45 Minutes
Instructor: Office of Emergency Management
Target Audience: Faculty, Staff and Students
Fee: Free
Description: Emergencies can happen at any time with no warning. Knowing what to do when an emergency occurs could help to save a life, including your own. This course will provide participants with an overview of what to do when an emergency occurs on campus. Specific topics will include: an overview of emergency planning on campus, emergency notification, what to do during specific types of emergencies, and an overview of emergency preparedness steps at home and campus.

Weather Emergencies

Course Length: 30 Minutes
Instructor: Office of Emergency Management
Target Audience: Faculty, Staff and Students
Fee: Free
Description: This is course is designed to help you better understand what a weather emergency is and what to do during the different types of weather emergencies that can occur. This workshop will cover the difference between a watch and warning, how to be prepared if one strikes, how you will be notified, what to do after the severe weather has passed, and other useful information. Participants will learn how to be prepared both on and off campus.

Fire Extinguisher Training

Course Length: Various
Instructor: Office of Emergency Management/ Greensboro Fire Department
Target Audience: Faculty, Staff and Students
Fee: Free
Description: Fires can occur both at home and on campus. Knowing what steps to take when on occurs could mean the difference in life or death, as well as significant property loss. Fire extinguishers can be an effective tool for extinguishing fires, and can be found throughout campus. During this workshop, learn how to use a fire extinguisher through both classroom instruction and hands-on practice.

Active Shooter

Course Length: 30 min
Instructor: Office of Emergency Management/ UNCG Police
Target Audience: Faculty, Staff and Students
Fee: Free
Description: Active shooter situations are becoming more common in today’s society. This presentation will give you the needed information on what to do if there is an active shooter presentation on campus. Topics will include: safety tips for the situation, what to do if you are confronted by the shooter, what to do when the police arrive, and other general information.

New Employee Orientation

Course Length: 15 Minutes
Instructor: Office of Emergency Management
Target Audience: New Employees
Fee: Free
Description: This session provides new employees with an overview of emergency preparedness activities on campus, as well as how to respond to emergency situations on campus.
